DHS Announces Extension of REAL ID Full Enforcement Deadline

We accept walk in customers until 4:15 pm.  

• RENEWING YOUR DRIVER’S LICENSE OR ID?

  • Applying for REAL or ENHANCED IDs? Make sure you are prepared- visit DRIVE.MN.GOV to find out what you need to have. The deadline has been extended until May 7, 2025.

• DRIVER’S LICENSES AND ID’S
           
          Effective August 1, 2023 
  • Anyone 21 years of age or older that has a valid, unexpired out of state driver's license will no longer be required to take the class D knowledge test or motorcycle knowledge test.  This waiver does not include school bus or hazmat endorsement testing.  These two tests will still be required if an applicant wants to transfer these endorsements.   
  • Anyone under the age of 21 years old who holds a valid out of state drivers license must complete a class D knowledge test.  If they hold a motorcycle endorsement, they will also be required to take the motorcycle knowledge test.                                                                    
  •   Anyone that holds a valid out of state instruction permit will be required to take the class D knowledge test no matter their age.

• MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION RENEWALS
  • Drop off and mail options are strongly recommended
  • The Cloquet office will accept drop off and mailed tab renewals at 14 N 11^th Street Suite 130, Cloquet, MN 55720.
  • For drop off and mail options, you MUST include your renewal slip (or a note with ALL required vehicle info) AND insurance company name, policy number, full expiration date AND check or money order (no cash) and your phone number.
• DNR RENEWALS
  • Drop off and mail options are strongly recommended--call our office for help with fees. 
  • The Cloquet office will accept drop off and mailed renewals at 14 N 11^th Street Suite 130, Cloquet, MN 55720.
  • For drop off and mail options, you must include your renewal card, phone number and check (no cash).
